Spartan football team qualifies for playoffs despite loss

The Greeley West Spartans football team is officially playoff bound. After losing the league championship in their game to Loveland, the Spartans still stayed in the top 16 for RPI rankings while Loveland was still out of the top 16.

Greeley West will take on Rampart on Saturday at 7 p.m. at District 20 Stadium in Colorado Springs.

The Spartans thought their season came to an end after the loss to Loveland, with a mere 20% chance of making playoffs. That 20% of hope came through and gave the Spartans an 11th seed playoff position. The Indians beat the Spartans 14-7 and ended their season with a 9-1 record.

Senior Devin Sirio was excited about the playoff news. “It felt really good, especially for us seniors. It’s a good feeling knowing that we all get to play together another week,” Sirio said.

With this game being a must win/elimination game, the Spartans are working hard to take on Rampart. “We’re watching film all week, making game plans, and practicing hard all week to prepare for this game,” Sirio said.

West will need all the support they can get as they travel down to the Springs Saturday afternoon.
