3A’s failure will impact West eventually

Last Tuesday, America had a huge day with it being the Election Day. In Colorado there were some big laws to vote on. One close to home was Ballot Measure 3A, which would put a tax on homeowners, for the benefit of District 6 schools. The measure failed.

3A would have made a huge impact on District 6 by bringing in 12 million dollars a year on a mill levy override. This amount of money would have promised new technology, textbooks, and many other things to District 6 students. This amount of money would be a great impact on Greeley West and do a lot for the school. The money would have had a huge impact on so many things.

“Teachers are going to have to do more with less. The money would have led to improving technology and supplies being put into schools. It would also improve safety around the schools which is just good to know we would be safer with it being passed. The money could have even been put into something so simple like new desks, or new chairs,” art teacher Ms. Dawn Feinberg said.

With this mill levy override not passing, Greeley West could be impacted in a bad way. Mr. Jeff Cranson, the principal and Greeley West said, “This doesn’t affect us at all right now because the money wouldn’t have come in until next year.”
Since 3A was asking for so much money that West needs, and we won’t be getting that money something may have to be cut at West. Cranson said, “We have to look at budgets and see where we are at; we haven’t talked about what’s getting cut. I don’t know what it could be.”

District 6 was one of the only districts that did not get the mill levy override to pass. Windsor, Fort Collins, and LaSalle all got their education issues to pass.

“Since other communities can get it passed and we can’t, this makes teachers want to find a job where the community supports the schools,” Feinberg said.

Teachers will still work hard to make sure kids get an education. “Teachers work very hard here at Greeley West to make sure every student gets educated and teachers are still going to come in everyday and keep making Greeley West great,” Cranson said.
