LGBTQ have allies at Greeley West

Madeline Rodgers, Staff Writer

Donald Trump becoming president has set a new feeling into the vast majority of people. Fear. Vice President Mike Pence, himself, is avidly against rights for the LGBTQ community and there have been whispers of conversion therapy throughout the community, given he campaigned for it in Indiana.

If you didn’t know, conversion therapy is “therapy” used to convert someone who isn’t straight into being straight, through means of controversial methods, such as electric shocks, which can be administered to minors against their will, should the parents permit it. This kind of therapy instills fear because it’s not only extremely traumatizing, but it’s abusive and not scientific.

I feel as though the Greeley West community, specifically the Gay Straight Alliance club could be a great place and resource for any students here at West who are fearful, need a group of fellow students to talk to, or a safe place to be themselves. Mr. Collin Shaha is the sponsor and students who want to use the resource can find him in room 509.
