Day & Night: Spartans make most of day in Aurora with triple-OT victory

On Wednesday, the Greeley West High School boys’ basketball team traveled to Aurora Central for their first basketball game after break. The team left the school at 12 p.m.m to get to Aurora Central at 1:15. The team sat in a library for two hours until they went to the gym to sit for two more hours while the C and D teams played.  before the 7 p.m. tip-off.

Once the varsity game started, it was a back and forth affair with a lot of lead changes. By the end of regulation the score was tied, guaranteeing a longer night yet.

Greeley West finally pulled away in third overtime and won the game, 74-66.

Some big stats from the game were Andre Sepeda with 24 points and 7 assists, Brody Clark scored 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, and Tommy Gonzales scored 14 points. Greeley West made 10 3-point shots, shooting 42%.

Gonzales said, “I felt really good about the game tonight. I was confident and got good opportunities to score and just play.”

Sepeda would have much rather returned to Greeley before 11 p.m. and stated, “This game shouldn’t have gone into three overtimes. We should’ve won in regulation but we did pull out a big win.”

West hosts Horizon on Friday night in its first 5A Front Range game of the year.
