Girls tennis season starts today

For the past couple years, the Greeley West tennis team has been a leader in the Front Range League. At the end of last season, the Spartans ended up sending a total of two girls to the state tournament, which is a huge accomplishment in any sport.

Last year the tennis team lost a total of six seniors. This year there is almost a whole new team coming out. With only 11 spots on the varsity team and around 50 girls trying out, the competition to make those spots is tough.

With the challenge matches coming to a close, the people who are going to fill those varsity spots are becoming more clear. With only three varsity single spots open, the spots have come down to five girls. The five girls are Alyssa Rodello, Delaynie McPhee, Lily Brynteson, Hana Cropper and Jana Sheriff. These girls will play a key part of this year’s tennis team.

Junior Rodello stated,” This year will be fun. We all have improved a lot and I hope we end up sending some more girls to state.”

This is Rodello’s third year on the team. Rodello is an example of most of the girls who play tennis at West. She started her freshman year and has improved a lot over the years.

The tennis team opens today with a match against Mountain View today.
