Construction crews begin to dismantle the football field and track in preparation for summer construction.

The city of Greeley has chosen to give grants of money to have a new field and track put in replace of the field and track right now. The city has put in around two million dollars to have everything done.

The project had a late start but the outcome isn’t affected to bad. Everything is supposed to be done on the 18 of August. Before crews got off to a late start, the deadline was August 1. The football team will be able to practice the fall camp right before the season starts. The track team will also be able to practice at West instead of traveling to practice. The District Stadium will be handing down the track equipment to West and the district will be buying new equipment.

The whole project includes, brand new Greeley West designed field turf, an eight-lane all-weather track, bleachers to hold 500 people, and field events for track which would be throwing and jumping areas. Greeley West and District 6 will be in charge of maintaining and gates once the project is done.

The biggest difference of the field and track is that everything is open to public use. Greeley West athletic events will always get first access to everything and get on whenever, but the public can reserve times to use it or anyone can use it when nothing is happening on it.

Mr. Ken Denning, Greeley West’s athletic director said, “Everyone is very excited to have a brand new surface after everything that field and track has gone through, and not only that but football JV, C, and possibly some soccer teams will get to play their home games at West.”
