West student’s cousin experiences flooding in Houston

As many of us know, there has been very severe flooding happening in Houston in the past week that is unfortunate and completely out of anyone’s control. Many United States citizens have taken action in holding fundraisers and volunteers have been doing all they can to save lives, homes, schools, and so on. Houston to Greeley is a very long distance apart, but at least one Greeley West student’s family was effected.

Junior Garrett Fink has a cousin, Isaiah Sherman, living in College Station, which is 97 miles away from Houston. Sherman, who is a student at Blinn College, has had classes that were cancelled for the time being for the flooding. Sherman said that he was afraid of his apartment flooding but the water has not gotten close enough to cause concern quite yet.

Sherman explained what he has been seeing and what people in his community have been doing since the start of the storm. “People have been bringing fishing boats and jet skis out and using them to help get people out of their houses and off of their roofs. Many people have opened up go fund me accounts to help donate to the families and businesses that have lost everything in them. It’s just a really bad time for everyone and you can really see on people’s faces that they don’t know what’s next,” Sherman said.
