The Greeley West football team faces cross-town rival Greeley Central this Friday. This week is very important for the Spartans, as they prepare all week for the big game. The pregame festivities include a week of wacky spirit days, prep assembly the day before, and a parade of screaming Spartans representing theirclub/sport in a caravan down the streets of Greeley.

Starting on Monday,  the West students started their spirit week off with a sports jersey day. After that came the crazy mixed gender day. This day was full of guys dressed like girls and girls dressed like guys.

“It was weird walking around seeing guys in dresses, but it was cool to see everyone’s school spirit and them participating in spirit week,” said Junior Eric Hernandez.

The rest of the spirit week included formal wear on Wednesday, Decades Day on Thursday and finally spirit day on Friday.

On Thursday during homeroom all of the students packed into the gym for a pep rally to get ready for the game on Friday. During the assembly Principal Mr. Jeff Cranson talked about all the league wins the fall sports had and also talked about how every fall sport is doing this year. The cheerleaders, the football team and the Poms were given their banners that represent their league championships last year.

Finally the student body got pumped up for the game. The students fought for the spirit stick by yelling their class song and the class cheering the loudest prevails with the win, and for the first time ever the junior class won the spirit stick.

On game day, the West baseball team puts on a BBQ fundraiser and while people eat at the BBQ they get to watch the crazy parade full of student caravans represented by different sports teams and clubs. The parade starts at West and ends at District 6 stadium. The parade has been an annual event at the West vs. Central game for the over 20 years.
