Cross country regionals took place in Boulder at Fairview High School. Greeley West was among 11 other schools attending the meet to compete for state. The regional race was 3.1 miles long and was on rigorous terrain.

The course, that single-handedly decided the state field, was challenging for the runners due to having to run uphill three times. To qualify for state, an individual had to place in the top 15 finishers and for a team to qualify, five individual times would be combined to be in the top four. The girls team finished seventh overall, ending its season.

Senior Maria Geesaman, and sophomore Megan Starkey both qualified to move on to state on October 28th in Colorado Springs. Geesaman was running in the 23rd spot most of the race and managed to pass eight girls to place 15th overall with a time of 20:11. Starkey placed 13th with a time of 20:00.

“It was a rough race for the team overall, but we had the determination to pull through,” said Geesaman.

Coach Richard Davis was proud and satisfied with the way his team performed. “They finished about exactly where we thought they would. We were hoping maybe we might leapfrog Thunderidge and Ralston Valley, but they had other plans,” Davis commented.
