Last week was an ideal week for the Greeley West basketball team after winning its three games that they played last week. The impressive week  the Spartans record to 7-4.

On January 3West played their first game of the week against Aurora Central. It was a tight contested game with the first half ending in a score of 32-30 in favor of the Spartans and they outscored Aurora Central in the third quarter, and fought off Aurora Central’s 26 point fourt quarter to hold on for the 66-64 victory. Tommy Gonzales had 25 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals to lead the Spartans to the win.

Then on January 5, they had their second game at Horizon, their first league road trip of the year. It was a close game throughout the whole game until West pulled away late in the fourth quarter. The Spartans won the game by a score of 53-44. Andre Sepeda led the Spartans to victory with 18 points, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Sepeda said the win held serious  significance. “It’s always good to start off in league 1-0, but it is even better when you can start league road games off with a good confidence builder.”

Lastly, the Spartans played inner-city foe Northridge on Saturday January 6 at Northridge. It was a hard fought game by both teams, but in the end West was the better team. West won the game 53-44.  Sepeda again led the Spartans statistically with 25 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.

The Spartans return home for two games this week, starting tonight against Front Range League opponent Rocky Mountain.  Then, a solid Broomfield team plays at West on Friday night.  Both games are scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
