Football team’s fundraising takes on holiday seasons

At Greeley West, many of the athletic teams venture off and compete in a tournament out of state. The baseball team goes to California and the girls and boys basketball teams go to Nebraska. When you travel to play in these tournaments, it costs a lot of money.

The Greeley West football team is planning to take their talents to Florida in the 2018 season. This would be the first time the West football team would travel out of state. To make this dream a reality, the team is fundraising a lot to come up with the money.

The Spartans most recent fundraiser was unique. On Saturday January 6, the people of Greeley gave the football team 20 dollars and then a group of the football players went around Greeley picking up their Christmas trees directly from their house and then they continued to recycle the trees with a wood chipper that West borrowed from a company.

Along with the Christmas tree fundraiser, the West football team plans to babysit during Valentine’s Day and plan to do many more fundraisers for the trip.

Junior football player Derek West stated, “Going to Florida to play against new teams would be awesome. Seeing new competition around the US is always eye-opening.”

The Spartans are looking forward to the new season and have already started offseason lifting to prepare for upcoming year.
