Orchestra students earn grant by voting

Against popular belief, Facebook has proven to be a useful tool for Spartans. On February 5, Mr. Tom Nugent was selected for a $1000 grant from a Toyota giveaway for the month of January. Nugent entered the Toyota’s “Best New Year’s Resolution” giveaway by commenting, “My resolution is to provide stringed instruments to students in need at Greeley West High School and Chappelow Arts Magnet!”

With the help of the Spartan student body, Nugent was able to accumulate 548 reactions to match some comments that ended with a mere single digit turn-out.

“I think it was good that we all got together to help our school win something,” said junior Marie Varela, “it was really cool how we all came together.”

She was among many of the West students who helped Nugent’s comment gain a following.

The prize money will be spent evenly between Greeley West and Chappelow, with both programs receiving either violins or a new cello.
