Football camp set for April 23-28

The Greeley West football team is starting its season much earlier than what it has in the past. The Spartans are going to hold a spring camp April 23 to April 28. The camp will be from 7-9 at District 6 stadium. The camp will be about preparing for the season and holding a combine.

Head coach Jason Renouf has asked multiple colleges to come watch the practice and combine to scout players. Colleges range from most of the D2 colleges in Colorado to the University of Wyoming. “Doing a spring camp will be huge for kids. This is the time for colleges to start recruiting kids and it’s a great opportunity for kids to show off their talents,” Renouf said.

Another huge step the Spartans are taking with this camp is wearing different gear than usual. Renouf ordered incidental breaker pads and incidental shoulder pads. These pads are meant to help with upper body injuries. Last year, one of the Spartans football players was seriously injured in a 7 on 7 game, causing the Spartans to take action to help that.

The players of the team are getting excited to show off their talents and hopefully get some coaches’ attention. “This is the first time I will be playing in front of college coaches and I am hoping to really get their attention and start my chances of playing college ball,”junior Joseph Piacenza said.
