The class of 2018 had a few spectacular athletes and two were selected as the best last Monday at the awards ceremony. The two students were Peyton Book and Kelton Boyd.

The first award was given to Boyd: The Gary Weimer Award. Weimer was one of many Greeley West’s outstanding students in the class of 1966. Weimer earned six varsity letters, received all-state recognition in football and baseball, and was recognized as an amazing leader and citizen at Greeley West High School.

Athletic Director Mr. Ken Denning said, “Kelton is a quality student athlete.”

Boyd said, “I was happy knowing that I was nominated with the best athletes in Greeley West. It was surprising when I got the award.”

The Kathy Elliot Award, which was named this year, was given to Peyton Book. Elliot was a basketball, volleyball, and tennis coach at Greeley West, up until her retirement in 2008. Elliot coached the tennis team when they placed second at state in 2007.

Book was surprised when she was presented with the award. “I was surprised because no Pom has ever won the award. It is nice to be recognized for all of our [Poms] hard work. I was shocked because all the other nominees were highly qualified as well,” said Book.
