Last Saturday night, the Greeley West Poms hosted the Dancing with the Teachers competition. In this competition each Pom picks a teacher to dance with and teach them a dance that goes with a predetermined theme.

This year, the theme was the 70s, which meant costumes consisted of stripes, sequence and poofy hair. The competition is used as a fundraiser for the poms to go to nationals. The teams were Alyssa Wood and Mr. Kelly Longacre, Chloe Job and Ms. Deli Sambir, Jana Datteri and Mr. Stephan Paulson, Bryana Martinez and Mr. Aaron Allen, Haylie Juhl and Mr. Greg McAdams, Nina Sanchez and Mr. Joshua Law, Isabella Martinez and Mr. Ky Dietz, Mackenzie Hora and Ms. Amy Zulauf, Gabriella Guzman and Mr. Cody Law, Alexys Martinez and Mr. Troy Jarrell, Jacelyn Hays and Mr. Jeff Cranson, and Kimmy Ordonez and Mr. A.J. Johnson.

The competition had three judges, which this year was two past Poms and West’s Ms. Jane Burke. They also have voting at intermission to help get the audience involved. The audience chooses a final four and then a winner is elected by the judges. This year’s winner was Martinez and Dietz.

Pom sponsor Ms. Peggy Freemole said the event was a success.  “I enjoy this competition because I feel like it raises school spirit and helps bring students and faculty together,” Freemole said.
