District 6 has brought Domino’s Pizza as a choice for students at lunch on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays here at Greeley West this school year.

District 6 sent out a Request for Proposal to all pizza places in town to find a place that would meet their strict nutritional standards but still interest and appeal to students. With their great tasting whole-grain crust, reduced fat cheese, and a low sodium sauce that still has a great taste, the only place that met District 6’s standard was Domino’s.

Ms. Caitlin Christensen, who is the District Area Supervisor for Nutrition said, “We were interested in bringing in new options to our menu that appeal to our students, are nutritious, and taste great.”

When students buy pizza for lunch ,they’re actually buy Domino’s Smart Slice Pizza.  There are many smart slice options in regards to styles of pizza that are healthy but still have a good taste. They have honor roll pizzas like Hawaiian Hot Lava, West Coast Veggie, Kick’n Chicken, BBQ Smokehouse and many more choices. Domino’s even allows school districts to mix and match and build their own pizza involving different cheeses, meats, and veggies.

The dough is made from scratch in Denver and is never frozen. It is then hand-tossed in the stores here in Greeley. Students at West are currently limited to either pepperoni or cheese pizza. It is $2.00 for a slice of pizza and $3.00 for a meal that would include milk and the salad bar.  Student lunch numbers work to make the purchases as well.

Sophomore Linda Maturino said, “It’s better than the pizza we have had before.”

Maturino has had the pepperoni pizza twice and plans to continue to get it.

District 6 is serving Domino’s to 18 different high schools, middle schools, and charter schools. If a specific flavor is not offered, feel free to talk to the kitchen staff to see if it can become available.
