Select Spartans donate blood

Greeley West held its first blood drive of the year on September 27. The blood drive was one of two that West holds every year. Another drive will be held sometime in the spring and that will be a separate opportunity to donate if the first one was missed. The blood drive was  held at Generations Church, which is located right across from West.

Student Council had run the blood drive until National Honor Society took it over. The week of the donation, there was a table set up in the lobby and students could sign up during lunch or go to room 102 and talk to Mr. Peter Jakus, who is the National Honor Society sponsor.

A form was handed out with information about donating and all the requirements to donate.
Jakus has been an advocate of the blood drive and has tried pushing it more in his upper-level classes, since most underclassmen don’t qualify to donate blood.

Jakus has practiced what he preaches, donating every year except the last two after having a blood transfusions. He hopes to be able to donate again this school year.

Senior Vincentius Farnando donated for the first time. He finally got the chance to donate this year because he was able to sign off for himself.
