Greeley West’s yearbook class given new learning opportunities at UNC

Greeley West high school’s yearbook class, taught by Ms. Julie Hagemeister, was asked by administrators at the University of Northern Colorado to come format the cover of their yearbook. Students went to UNC last Friday, September 6, to sit in on college classes that were in relation to what they do for the yearbook at West.

Students got to listen to the instructors, ask questions and get hands on for the day at UNC last Friday. They then got to help design the cover of their yearbook.

“The first class was really interesting! I learned a lot about formatting and we got a lot of ideas for our yearbook.” senior Allison Rath said.

The yearbook class, is a year long class that takes pictures and keeps records of events so that they can put it all together at the end of the year and distribute to students. This opportunity was especially exciting for the class because they got to learn more about formatting and putting together a book at that size and volume.

“Overall it was pretty helpful. By the end of that day we knew what we wanted our cover to look like and what the theme was going to be. Both are a secret!” senior Lexi Baldwin said.

Both Rath and Baldwin are returning to yearbook for a second year and are looking forward to the new things they get to bring to the class, thanks to this field trip.

West is keeping their theme and cover a secret until later in the year. However, the class is using their new knowledge to put together a yearbook unlike any past year books.
