Club supervisors look for ways to get members interacting online

Students and club supervisors are used to having after school meetings and engaging as a group at Greeley West High School. Due to Covid, it has made it very difficult to do anything extra-curricular.

Club supervisors are struggling with Zoom meetings and doing the usual activities they would have been doing. Mrs. Susan Eastin is the head of the Fashion Club and explained her perspective.  “It has been challenging and difficult to even figure out how to have Zoom meetings,” Eastin said.

Eastin said it’s important to work through the technology and provide the opportunities as a faculty member.  “Students in the club are still interested and we have had four new students join the fashion club this year,” Eastin said.

There are many things you get from the in person interactions that you can’t get online,  but Mr. Ryan Allen, the supervisor of the chess/ board game club, is finding ways. “There are many excellent online versions of popular games. We are able to make do and enjoy spending time playing games together.” Allen said

When in person, it is much easier to have new members join, but when online it is very difficult. “We would love to have more people join us as we are currently a very small club with only 4-5 regular members.  We could play some really cool games if we had more people join us,” Allen stated.

Club activities and trips are all put to the side due to the pandemic, and for some students, that’s the most important part of joining the club. “Our activities, field trips, etc.  are all on hold right now because of Covid,” Eastin said.  “We are hoping things get better after Christmas break,”  Eastin said.
