Some interesting facts about Greeley West past

Callie Pautler, Staff Writer

With Greeley West High school building a new school, it that means it’s the end of an era and the start of a new one for West. Now seems like a good time to go over the amazing history of West and Principal Mr. Jeff Cranson was happy to discuss it.

The Greeley West Spartan motto is “All for one, one for all” which Cranson shared that the motto came from a popular television series the 3 Musketeers. “All for one, one for all” can be seen almost everywhere around the school so it’s hard to miss.

In 1999, renovations started to be made around the school which brought in the auxiliary gym, auditorium, band and construction trades room. Since then, many more buildings have been added to the school. The old auditorium is also under all the science classrooms along with room 305 being the old stage.

Some interesting pieces of history of the school that Cranson shared is that every yearbook from every year since 1966 can be found in the library. All the trophies of course are in the trophy cases near the main entrance of the school. Also some facts Cranson shared that not many people may know about is that there are underground tunnels for the boiler room and heating/air under the school. There’s even an underground river under the main gym which is the cause for the problems with the floor in the past. This land also used to be a farm.   The school was built far from the town as well that citizens weren’t too proud about. Heath Middle School could even be seen from the front door when the building was built. ‘
