Those minute videos on TikTok add up to endless black hole of wasted time

As a lot of us know, the app TikTok has become very popular in the past year. While it originally had a reputation for being a cringe app where people would lip sing to music, the app has become much more than that. The app has become a platform that many people can share anything from short skits to sharing math tips.

What’s great about this app is that all of the videos are less than a minute. With a lot of today’s younger population having an incredibly short attention span, this app is perfect for them. This allows you to be able to watch an untold amount of videos.

While most of these videos are funny, relatable, or just interesting, it can turn into a waste of time. You could be on your phone taking a small break, and decide to go on TikTok. The downside of the videos on this app being so short is that you continue to tell yourself “just one more,” and that can turn into multiple hours wasted. Where those hours could have been spent doing school work, reading a book, or learning a new skill.

TikTok can be a great source of entertainment, but there are so many other ways that you could be spending your time. I know from personal experience that it is very difficult to get off of the app after spending so much time on it. Don’t get me wrong, I love that app. But, when you watch these videos you’re sucked into a black hole of endless videos. This causes you to want to watch more videos when it’s not doing you any good. It’s hard to realize that you can find that same feeling in so many other things around you.

So take a break from your phone and go for a walk outside or something. I promise if you break out of that habit and make a new one, you’ll feel much better.
