Battle of the Spartans on tap at District 6 Stadium tonight

The football team returns from their first loss of the season tonight when they play Thomas Jefferson at 6:30 p.m. at District 6 Stadium.   .

Coach John Hickey makes sure his team doesn’t fall out of line. Players say Hickey doesn’t want his team to think their losing streak will continue from last year. He tells them they are not the same and will never again be the same. The players need to look forward to winning more, and not look in the past. Hickey is here to make a change and keep it that way.

Quarterback Julian Salas also thinks he and his teammates just need to work hard. “We have to work twice as hard in practice to make sure we don’t have any continuous problems,” Salas said.

Salas thinks they should be able to learn from their mistakes and make sure it doesn’t happen again. For example, Salas said he himself has to perfect reading the defense and making smart passes.

The team had a short week to prepare for tonight’s game.  They only had two days of practice and had to put in twice the work. Wider receiver  Jacob Flores believes they should be good for it. “It was a short two-day preparation, but if we come together as a team, work hard, and take care of ourselves we’ll win,” Flores said.

West and Thomas Jefferson are both 1-1 entering tonight’s game.  West hosts Northridge next week for its Homecoming game.
