On Saturday, the Greeley West high school boys swim team hosted the annual Wiedeman Invite at the Greeley Recreation Center. Despite the stiff competition, the boys came out with the second highest team score behind only No. 1-ranked Fossil Ridge.

Highlights of the meet included wins from senior Brody Lewis in the 100 breaststroke and 500 freestyle along with a first place finish for the 200 medley relay team.

Even though it’s early in the season, the Spartans have already met many of their lofty goals with multiple individual state qualifiers and qualifying times in all three relays. One goal the Spartans have yet to accomplish this year is breaking the 11-year-old school record in the 400 freestyle relay.  The boys came close to the record earlier this season at the Coaches Invite in Thorton, and got even closer this weekend with a time that now places them fourth in the state.

West was short many swimmers due to participation in the Greeley West theater department’s production of The Addams Family, but still performed extremely well. Other notable finishes from Saturday’s meet included senior Bryce Fehringer second-place time in the 50 freestyle and third-place time in the 100 freestyle.  Sophomore Jackson Wuthrich placed third in the 200 freestyle.

Overall the Spartans have had a remarkable season thus far and hope to improve throughout the rest of the season following Spring Break.
