Black Friday is a “holiday” known for its low prices, great deals, and long lines, but it is mostly recognized for the aggressiveness and competitiveness over the deals. In recent years, competition has begun to lessen due to the rise of online shopping and the fact that prices aren’t decreasing significantly nowadays.
We all have seen the infamous videos of fights breaking out during black friday, and I bet we can hear a few from our parents who experienced this firsthand. Black Friday used to be exciting, and waiting outside of buildings, waiting for doors to open so you could buy anything and everything with deals. Now it is just watching a countdown on your phone, waiting for the new prices to drop, and when they do, it’s only about 10% off.
I believe that online shopping for black friday takes away from the excitement that should usually come from the holiday, and now people in Gen Z and later generations don’t get to experience that adrenaline rush from not knowing if your item will be stolen.
This new generation as a whole should all come together and go back to how black friday shopping used to be, so we all can experience that same excitement and enjoyment our parents got to be in the middle of.
