As humans, we are taught what’s good and what’s bad, our parents pass this down in their own way. This is the foundation that almost every generation is raised on. But does there become a point where your circumstances can be used as an excuse to avoid what may be right?
The older a person gets, the more aware they become of what they do. At least this is the hope. However, this may not always be the case. If a student is raised around a different set of morals and what’s okay vs what’s not, this can impact the consciousness of an individual.
But how someone is raised, how their home life is and the set of circumstances they’re in, is not an excuse to do whatever they want. But I do believe this is a realization that one has to have on their own, this is not something anyone can do for someone else.
As individuals, we should recognize these bad patterns and choose to become better. If each person strived to be one percent better than the day before, I believe that we can all be more situationally aware and break the patterns that are breaking us.
Growth begins not when we see the issue but when we act on it. No choice you make is because of your circumstances and as a society we need to stop blaming everything on our environment.
Life will never be fair, ever. So instead of choosing to blame it, choose to overcome the adversity in your life and learn from it. One path will lead to progress and success, one keeps you in the same place and making the same mistakes.
High school is where this lesson will matter the most. Every decision you make, will impact your future, especially your grades and the way you treat others. When given the choice, choosing to be better isn’t just the right thing to do, its an investment in who you’ll become.
