Students rising up early to go to school, some waking up at 6 even 5 a.m. to get up and get ready. It brings up the discussion of should school start later? Students half awake in advisory struggling to stay focused and that leaks on to first period.
The lack of sleep affects their academic performance. If students are encouraged to do their best schools should consider starting later.
Falling asleep, chugging down a Redbull, drooling on the paper and by the end of the day they don’t even know what they were talking about in that class. If classes started later students would have an actual good breakfast instead of a little snack or nothing at all and starving all day watching the clock till it hits lunch time.
Some would argue that changing the start times might disrupt sports practices and family schedules. I think that student health and academic success should come first because bad grades mean no sports.Â
Less sleep causes stress and school is already stressful as it is with tests, quizzes, exams and more students tend to burnout and have struggles with sleep deprivation.
For the people that drive themselves to school every morning, less sleep could also lead to more accidents on the road due to slower reaction time, so more sleep can mean higher safety on the roads in the morning.
More sleep could lead to a better school experience everyday. Some students are nice and awake to actually want to participate in class and be more engaged with the class, not always silent classrooms in the morning.Â
