Greeley West football pulled out on top through a tough fought battle against the Fort Collins Lambkins last night in the Spartans home opener, earning the victory with a final score of 33-27.

The Spartans (2-1) jumped to a 7-0 lead after five plays in the first quarter. Greeley West’s offense came out strong and allowed Senior Darren DeLaCroix, to rush for his sixth touchdown of the year on the first drive of the game.

The Spartans defense held strong all first half with an interception at the Lambkins goal line and a fumble recovery, all in the first half. The Lambkins, still without a touchdown nearing the end of the first half, had a momentum shifting drive ending in seven points coming in to halftime. The Spartans ended the half with four total touchdowns, amounting to a score of 27-7 with 24 minutes left to play.

Coming out of the locker room at the half, Greeley West seemed to be a completely different team allowing Fort Collins to score three touchdowns in the second half. The Spartans offense only answered once, with a touchdown run of their own from sophomore, Derek West. When asked about his and the team’s performance, West stated, “We were fast, dynamic, and dominant.”

Greeley West did indeed come out on top with a final score of 33-27, giving them their second victory of the year. Now 2-1 the Spartans look to take down the defending state champions, Windsor Wizards, next Friday night at 7 o’clock in Windsor.
