Thespians look ahead to ‘Starcatcher’ performance

Kamrynn Lipp, Staff Writer

Peter and the Starcatcher, a story about pirates, stardust and adventure, is the newest play at Greeley West. This prequel to Peter Pan has won five Tony awards on Broadway and features 12 actors (11 boys and 1 girl) that play over 100 parts. It is a storytelling play, actors go back and forth between narrating and playing a character.

The known actors so far are: William Wingfield as Black Stache (Captain Hook), Katie Gorsline as Molly, and Jackson Starkey as “The Boy” (Peter Pan).  More parts will be announced after callbacks.

“Last year, we did a drama at the end of the year that was a documentary about the Holocaust, that was a black box production. So not many people saw that unfortunately. But the Addam’s Family was a huge success. So I’m really hoping people will come out for this one because of its connection with Peter Pan,” said director Peggy Freemole.

Freemole also gave a few sneak peeks about the production, stating “There is a fun bit about how Captain Hook lost his hand and about how Peter got the last name Pan. And the whole thing is about finding the ‘stardust’. There’s just a lot of fun parts. And we have a really cool set that we rented from Boulder Dinner Theater.”

The play is not a musical, but does have some musical numbers in it, with a piano player and a percussionist on stage doing the sound effects throughout the production.

Peter and the Starcatcher opens to the public November 11.
