Clown hoax impacts attendance at West

Over the week of September 26, School District 6 has increases security in its schools and district buildings due to the threats being made by a hoax group called the “Clowns”. The origin of the entire host came from a 15-year old who forwarded a Facebook message that claimed shootings would be carried out at Island Grove Park near Halloween, which then led to threats against schools like Franklin Middle School and Northridge High School.

Students at Greeley West High School took the threat as a warning sign and some parents pulled their kids midway through the day while other students never came at all.

Although the exact number of students that were pulled or didn’t attend is unknown, many classes were missing up to half the regular amount of students.

Senior Haylee Williamson didn’t attend due to the threats said, “Even if the threats weren’t serious, I feel like it was better to be safe than sorry.”
