The stage is set for one of the most anticipated high school football games of the season as Greeley West gears up to take on Greeley Central in their annual cross-town rivalry football game. The game is certain to be jammed packed with competition and community pride and a battle for a year’s worth of school spirit.
Senior captain and lineman Marcos Duran Flores said “West-Central rivalry means a lot to me because when I was a freshman, we lost and then we’ve won and have a two game winning streak against them going, and I’m trying to leave West with another win.”
West has been putting in hours of practice and preparation and preparing for this game has been no different than any other. Head football coach Jakob Vargas said, “With rivalry games, they are certainly different and so when people say they are just another game, that is not entirely the truth. But in terms of preparation, we do prepare like we do for other games.”
Junior and wide receiver Jedodiah Hicks shared his favorite moment from last year’s West-Central game. “Last year when Daniel Segura caught that deep ball, my heart stopped because I thought the safety was going to intercept it, but when Daniel caught that and scored. It went from the lowest low to the highest high in a matter of one second.
