The Greeley West Spartans Soccer team faces the Poudre Impalas this Friday at 6:30, at District 6 Stadium.
This will be the team’s final home game and their Senior Night. “This one is hitting a bit different” said head coach Jorge Cabral. “This is the first group of freshman that I see all the way out.”
Cabral has coached these seniors for all four years of their high school career. “They’re onto better and bigger things … I’m not going to see these players anymore,” Cabral explained.
For some players, they are pumped to play their final game. “I feel excited to play the game,” said senior Osiris Padilla.
As the team prepares for the game, they reflect on their favorite highlights from their season. For Cabral, it was, ”Finally beating Windsor for the first time,” as well as ”being able to be competitive with all the Fort Collins schools.”
For Padilla, it was ”scoring a lot of goals.”
He enters the games with 4 goals on the season.
Greeley West heads into the matchup with a record of 4-6-3, and Poudre holds a record of 8-4-1. The team has been preparing for this game over the past few days. Their biggest goal is playing for each other.
“Our main goal is just playing as a team and playing for each other,” said Cabral. “As long as we do that, we’ll be successful tonight.”
Padilla is preparing differently, treating it like a normal game. “I’m just doing what I do every day.”
The team will be celebrating 17 seniors at the end of the game
