On April 21, 2025 Greeley West had its annual National Honors Society Induction Ceremony in the auditorium.
At the ceremony, the 35 new members were inducted in front of the current NHS members and their family and friends. Utilities officer Jeremy Piacenza gave a speech on the four pillars of the NHS, which are scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
To apply to be a member of the NHS, applicants must write an essay about the four pillars and how they exemplify them in their own lives. Along with that, they need a letter of recommendation from a teacher and a log of their community service and extracurriculars.
This year there were 62 applicants. Communications officer Michael McCoy said, “It is very prestigious, so not everybody will get in.”
McCoy mentioned that when the officer team and NHS sponsor Ryan Pace choose new members there is usually a top 25% that are definitely getting in, a middle 50% that are on the fence, and a bottom 25% that are encouraged to try again next year.
New inductee Antje Terpstra is very excited to be a part of the NHS. “I applied to be in the NHS because it seemed like a great opportunity to meet students with standards similar to mine and who always strive to do their best,” Terpstra said.
Terpstra already has plans for the upcoming year as a member of the society. “I would love to run for an officer position, possibly this year,” said Terpstra.
