As the school year wraps up, new beginnings are arising. For the Greeley West Poms team, this means the introduction of Isabella Martinez, the newest head coach.
Martinez is a former Greeley West Pom and also a CSU Golden Pom Alumni. She also recently tried out for the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders and made it to semi-finals.
As the team transitions, many new attitudes are being brought into the program. Martinez, is hopeful when it comes down to what she’s able to produce with her team. “I want to build a culture of hard work and passion. I plan to honor what has been accomplished before me and it’s going to take a new level of hard work and deep rooted passion for this sport,” she stated.
Martinez went on to talk about the lessons she wants to make sure her athletes learn early on. “No dream is too big, Every process, routine, step, action, habit, etc. can get you where you want to go whether it’s in dance or in any part of life,” Martinez explained.
This excitement carried onto Marcos Rodriguez, a senior who recently made the team for his third season, “Isabella is amazing. She is a fast instructor and moves at a fast pace but that’s a good thing, I believe we can all be pushed to do better in our dancing careers because of it,” Rodriguez said.
To this new team alongside the new coach, this is not the usual experience, to them, it’s a lifetime of opportunity. Martinez ended by saying, “This experience truly means so much to me because Poms changed the trajectory of my life. Every coach I had, every dancer I danced with, every event, and every performance shaped who I am and to be able to give that opportunity to others is truly a blessing.”
