Last week, Greeley West had its annual Club Rush in which students got the opportunity to explore new and different clubs. This year it looked a little different as kids got to take advantage of their advisory period and travel days to learn about how to get involved at Greeley West.
The goal of Club Rush every year is to get as many students as possible involved early into their high school experience. Assistant Principal at Greeley West, Ms. Amanda Weis, said, “We want students to get involved because we know that students who do are more likely to be successful in the future and we also know from panorama data that some students feel like they don’t belong so this is a chance to find different communities to fit in.”
Weis has also made it clear that she wants more students to start showing school spirit which means being proud to be spartan and clubs are a great way to accomplish this.
The event also gave clubs a chance to reach out to students and give them vital information on what joining their club would entail. Christina Hirsch, a junior at Greeley West and member of the robotics club, stated, “We really want to grow out robotics program to be as big as possible and It’s less about getting kids interested and showing them our club but more of making sure they know when we meet along with other things.”
Hirsch, along with many other students also thought the way Club Rush was a big improvement to last year. For the past few years Club Rush has been very chaotic as students were focused on getting their ice cream by visiting as many clubs as they could as fast as possible. This year students got to choose which clubs they wanted to see and got to spend actual time with the club they chose.
Junior Kairo Ibarra-Ruiz, stated, “I think this year’s Club Rush was better because last year everyone kind of just sped through to get their ice cream. This year we actually got the chance to sit down and actually listen to what this club is about.”
