For the second year in a row, an AVID class dressed up for Halloween. In fact, two classes participated: Mr. Ryan Pace’s freshman and Mr. Joel Suarez’s seniors.
Last year around this time, Mr.Pace’s senior AVID class started their own tradition by dressing as Gru and his Minions.
Madison Vella, who was a senior last year, was in Pace’s AVID class all four years of high school, stated, “I think AVID class should dress up because that’s what creates the family feeling. I know a lot of kids don’t like AVID, but it’s moments like Halloween where you can foster a family vibe, and it makes AVID so much better.”
Pace, being who he is, always up to do anything for his students, was more than happy to dress up when his class brought the idea to him. He wants his students to be as involved with the school, and each other as possible, so when the idea was brought to him again this year, he was up for it.
This year, Pace was Cruella de Vil, while his students were dalmatians. The majority of his students were excited to dress up, besides some of the boys who took off their costumes after the class.
Being in one of the two classes that dressed up, freshman Aesha Garcia Guerra stated, “I think that it shows that we’re all really connected, we’re comfortable with each other, and being around each other.”

On Friday, Suarez dressed up as a farmer, and his students came as farm animals. After being an AVID teacher for four years, he had never celebrated Halloween with his class, but this year he decided to take after Pace.
Since it is his class’s last year at West, they decided to do something different than usual. Suarez went out of his comfort zone for his students. He stated, “It is their senior year, might as well try to finish it with doing fun things.”
