During their weekly meeting, FCA had a guest speaker come talk to them about his journey as a college student and how he found God along the way. Aliou-Rocco Traore, a running back for UNC football, shared his story with the FCA members and gave them insight into what it means to be a Christian and a college athlete.
Aliou-Rocco came to Colorado from Seattle where he enrolled in UNC. He was not born a Christian and throughout high school and the beginning of his college career he did not have a relationship with God and admitted to going to parties and drinking. It wasn’t until these last two years where he began to build his relationship with God as he was dealing with injuries. He first started going to bible study for free food but the more that he learned the more he realized the power of God’s message, and now he is a devout Christian.
Mr. Cruz Rodriguez , sponsor of FCA, related with Rocco and was happy that his members got a chance to hear about what it really means to be a college athlete and a Christian. Cruz said, “I think this is really valuable because I know that Rocco isn’t trying to sell my kids a certain perspective on the college experience, but is able to give them an authentic viewpoint on what they can expect in college.”
Elliot Leffler, a junior at Greeley West high school and member of FCA, was happy to have found people at the D-1 level that are believer in Christ saying, “It was fascinating to hear how other people have found Christ and to know that we have a role model in our community, but more people sharing their testimony would be beneficial to those following Christ.
