During the week before Thanksgiving, Link Crew hosted basketball games for freshmen to get more involved in the school and have fun while doing it during Freshmen Lunch. The senior mentors wanted them to enjoy their week before Thanksgiving break, and have something to look forward to. 

Link Crew has worked hard so far this year to help the freshmen get involved, and work hard while also enjoying being at school. Not one person came up with this idea, but the whole class of senior mentors did. After many ideas of what they could do, a basketball tournament was mentioned, and it was soon developed into the tournament students experienced this past week. 

Senior Mentor, Jonathon Rios Roman stated, “There’s been nothing like this that has been done in the past, where it’s just freshmen, so it was good for them to have fun and get involved this way.” 

On Wednesday, the games had originally been 3v3 with just freshmen playing each other, and then some teachers were asked to join as well which ended up turning into 4v4 games. As time went on, the link leaders joined in as well to be a role model for the freshmen, and the participation and teams gradually got bigger and bigger. 

Friday ended up being similar to what they were previously doing, going along with the same 11 team bracket. The winner will go against the final team of teachers. This also allowed the freshman to interact with teachers that aren’t just theirs. Huidance counselors and teachers of all grades participated. 

Freshman Dominic Perez stated, “The basketball tournament was fun, it was a nice way to get freshmen together, and we beat a team 4-0.”
