At Greeley West this week the food science class is working on their final. Their final assignment was to make a cookie recipe that was not already on the Crumble menu. Many students have come up with creative recipes.
Food science teacher, Ms. Brenda Guzman came up with this assignment because she wanted to give something fun, creative, and innovative for the students. Over the semester students learned different flowers, different batches, and different sugars to make their recipe that is not on the Crumble menu. Guzman explained how it worked “They can make whatever they can dream up of. We do two to three rounds, and there will be six judges that will taste them,” stated Guzman.
Lots of students have very creative ideas. One of them is sophomore Jasmine Blackwell who is making a caramel apple cookie. Her and her group wanted to make a fun and different cookie. “We wanted a cookie that included caramel and that is a new and fun cookie,” stated Blackwell.
Sophomore Donovan Parker is making a sprinkle sugar cookie however, instead of using regular flour he is using pastry flour. He went through the Crumble menu and saw that there was just a cookie with sprinkles on it. So then he decided to use pastry flour and make a sprinkle sugar cookie.“The cookies will spread out more and have a soft and moist consistency,” stated Parker.
Sophomore William Carson is making a strawberry banana cinnamon cookie. He came up with this idea by researching what would be the healthiest cookie and what the best ingredients would be to use. “I researched a lot to come up with the healthiest cookie and I want the main target audience to be people who are trying to find healthy sweet treats,” Carson said.
