Cram & Cocoa is an opportunity for freshmen to go and have free snacks and drinks while also being in a focused study environment to be tutored. 

Link Crew has done this event for a few years now. It is recommended by the Link Crew program to do, meaning it has been effective. An incentive is always good to get freshmen to do something that they don’t want to. Hot cocoa, apple cider, and various snacks were offered, and it made it more enjoyable for them to have a fun treat while doing something that usually isn’t fun. 

Instead of getting help from teachers, freshmen are able to get help from more relatable people, upperclassmen. They had the choice to study for their upcoming finals, and any other homework that they may have needed help with. 

Senior Kaitlee Marshall stated, “They’re hearing it from someone that’s not a teacher and it being reexplained by another student can be really helpful.”

Not only was this a good thing for freshmen, but it was also an important experience for Link Crew members and their freshmen to connect on a deeper level. Once freshmen become more comfortable around the Link Crew members, it will be easier for them to have the courage to ask for help with their school work. 

Around 20 freshmen, in total, showed up to the commons after school for help. For the people who went and actually wanted to be there, they got the help that they needed. 

Freshman Gustavo Manriquez-Valdivia stated, “I play sports so I usually don’t get time to do homework like that, so it was nice that I got extra time to just focus.”
