Towards the beginning of the second semester students were given oppositional IXL lessons to prepare them for upcoming state tests (SAT, PSAT).
Principal Jeffery Cranson said that IXL’s personal SAT study plan correlates to better SAT data, specifically in regards to:
- 6–8 Hours: Associated with a 90-point increase from a previous score or diagnostic.
- 20 Hours: Associated with a 115-point increase.
- Long-term (One Month+): Consistent work for a month or more can result in increases ranging from 150 to 250 points, depending on the student’s starting baseline.
Junior Samuel Sasaki plans to use Kahn Academy to study for his SAT. “I would like to improve my SAT score and be around the 90th percentile. I will achieve this goal by setting aside time to study around 1 hour every day, starting a month in advance, as well as taking one practice test every week. During this time I plan to spend the most time in the reading section in general, although I need to brush up on Geometry.”
Junior Kern Chahal studies using the Princeton review SAT Prep along with Khan Academy. “I want to reach a score of 1500 and I’ll be focusing on both areas equally as my score was the same in both math and reading/writing to achieve this goal.”
Cranson also provided PSAT prep for Freshman and Sophomores through IXL “We have put in 9th Grade NWEA scores, 10th and 11th Grade PSAT Scores to create a personalized path for each student to complete,” Cranson said.
Expect the IXL rollout to be comeptitive. “We will have some class competitions and grade level competitions when we get this rolling,” Cranson expressed.
