On Ssturday February 7, Greeley West hosted the Sweetheart blast, where the West cheer squad took 3rd in the 4A, 5A game day category.
The cheer team had two performances in two different categories: Game Day and traditional. During their second performance they debuted a new pink uniform that is very unique compared to other schools.
Freshman Maritza Vasquez always gets nervous before the performances but still does great. “I feel nervous, and it’s a really long performance, but I feel like it went really well , our voices were really loud and our stunts were hitting,” Vasquez explained.
Sophomore Maritza Torres felt very comfortable in their first performance rather than their second one which they did not prepare for as long as she would have hoped. “I went into the second performance with the most nerves. I feel like the first one we got down faster because we’ve done that one more, and the second one, we barely learned it not too long ago.”
Torres also said she enjoys performing the first performance more. “The first performance is like a bunch of running around, back and forth around the mat, and the second one it was shorter and didn’t involve as much running,” Torres explained.
Freshman Bryn Linsacum had many different feelings going into the performances. “I definitely had nerves. Nerves are bad before performances,” Linsacum said.
Linsacum said there are definitely some aspects of our performance to focus on in the future. “I need to focus on myself more. I was a lot more worried about everyone else than I was myself. I wasn’t really paying attention to what I was doing.”
The West cheer squad will have their last performance at Freshmen Registration Night.
