Greeley West’s (FFA) spent all of last week celebrating their chapter. All of FFA came together to host their own spirit week that encouraged students to dress up, as well as working with the community to host events including a stick pony race, a school wide coin drive, a count the corn challenge, and a partnership with John Deere that brought two large green tractors to the front of the Greeley West parking to inform the student body of FFA and encourage them to get involved.
All of the proceeds from the coin drive go toward community service via a donation to the Humane Society as they are big supporters of FFA at Greeley West, and, just like last year, the coin drive will end in one of Greeley West’s faculty members kissing a pig.
FFA officers were thankful for the participation from their fellow students and stated that it was much improved from last year across all of their events while emphasizing that they want to find a way to get all students involved and informed about FFA outside of those taking an FFA class. Junior Vice President Dakota Lanning, stated that, “We just want people to participate and learn about everything that agriculture can provide for them. I feel that FFA provides a good opportunity to be exposed to activities and concepts that they wouldn’t be otherwise.”
When asked about the goals and intentions behind FFA week every year Agriculture teacher and FFA sponsor, Ms. Alexandra Grimes stated that, “We just want to show everyone that FFA is more than just in the classroom, and that it can impact everyone on a multitude of levels.”
