Greeley West students have wored hard at work preparing for the production of 9 to 5: The Musical, a comedy about three women who team up to take control of their difficult boss and change their workplace. The show opened last week with two performances and a set of pay teasers during the school day.
With catchy songs, energetic performances, and plenty of humor, the production highlights both the talent on stage and the teamwork behind the scenes.
Junior Grace Ader plays Doralee, a bold and confident character inspired by the role originally portrayed by Dolly Parton. Bringing Doralee to life requires not only strong vocals but also personality and stage presence. “I play Doralee and I enjoy her accent and her confidence the most,” Ader said. “It allows me to stretch my range as a performer.
Another student is junior Antje Terpstra who plays Margaret, a secretary who adds humor and charm to the show. “What I enjoy most about this character is that I have the ability to really make the character my own,” Terpstra said.
Because Margaret has fewer strict guidelines, the performer focuses on developing the character’s personality and making sure it clearly comes across to the audience. The hospital scene is a favorite moment in the show. Terpstra said it stands out because it is “so hilarious and entertaining” while bringing several major characters together to resolve the story’s central conflict.
The musical runs for one more weekend this Friday and Saturday night at 7 p.m.
