On April 15th the junior class took SAT’s.
To prepare for the SAT students were given IXL lessons that were focused on their weaknesses from the NMSQT test they took in the fall of this school year. Some students went out on their own to practice using other websites like Khan Academy, OnePrep, etc.
Junior Amy Galvan did not think she did the best she could have. “I don’t think I did the best because the second math module had easier questions than the first one even though I practiced 40 minutes of Khan Academy a week for 4 months,” Galvan explained.
Junior Bryan Corral did lots of practice and studying for his SAT. “I used OnePrep and I did a bunch of practice questions. I made sure I was practicing at least twice a week for three months prior to taking the test in order to try and get a score of 1300 or better,” Corral explained.
Four months prior to taking the SAT and PSAT freshman, sophomores, and juniors were given designated class time to work on IXL problems every Tuesday morning during advisory. In these advisory classes students were to complete two IXL lessons.
Junior Gavin Webb was one of the slim number of students who actually used this time for SAT prep. “In my English class we did IXL and quill lessons, and in my math class we did practices quizzes leading up to the test. I think I got a better score on this test that previous test like the NMSQT because I have learned a lot more this year, I felt more confident, and I had a better breakfast. The first section of math and english was stuff that I have learned in previous years and the second section was stuff that we focused on this year so I felt pretty confident in my ability to get a score of 1400+.” Webb explained.
