Fifty-three students kicked off testing season at Greeley West High School, recently completed the required IB Sports, Exercise, and Health Science assessment, an important evaluation that contributes to their overall IB grade. Unlike a typical classroom exam, this assessment was spread over two days and required students to demonstrate both academic understanding and applied knowledge.
The IB test is designed to assess students’ understanding of exercise science through real-world application. Throughout the two-day exam, students completed multiple-choice questions, short-response questions, data-based analysis, and extended response sections that required clear explanations using scientific terminology.
Junior Harlow Cropper said she felt well prepared for the written portion of the test. “I was ready for the short response questions because we practiced a lot in class,” Cropper said. “I knew what to expect and how to explain my answers using the right terms.”
Junior Chloe Thompson shared that the pressure of the IB requirement motivated her to prepare more thoroughly. “Since it counts as our IB test, I made sure I understood all the material before,” Thompson said. “You have to think while you’re exercising, not just go through the motions.”
Junior Ulises Sanchez said the experience helped him better understand the purpose behind the course. “Doing the IB test showed me how everything we learned actually applies,” he said. “It’s not just notes, it’s about using that knowledge in real situations.”
