In a thrilling display of teamwork and talent, the girls swim team had an amazing meet against Loveland last Tuesday taking first place with a couple of players beating their previous times.
Sophomore, Scarlette Howell who dominated in the 500 meter freestyle, set a personal best, cutting five seconds off of her 500 meter freestyle. Two girls placed first and second in the 500 meter freestyle which were Avery Moore and Dani Douglas which shifted the energy early on. Diver and Central student, Hope Kale, on their last dive, did better than the last 11 divers. This moved the team up by eight points. Junior Hailey Ratliff has cut an overall ten second on her 200 IM.
“The really nice thing about the team this year is that they’re all really supportive of each other,” said head coach Collin Shaha.
Shaha mentioned that you should know when your teammate gets a new personal best so that you are just as happy as they are and that is what being a team is about. Shaha is excited for a couple of athletes who have relay cuts to make it to state, and is excited to get started into conference meets.
The team had some energy early on in their meet which kept rolling into each event. The Spartans beat them on two relays, although Loveland’s relays are usually faster, but had them beat in two out of three relays.
Ratliff mentioned she is excited for next year because it will be her senior year and she wants to finish it out strong. “I’m pretty excited for the conference because we will all be in shape, and I’m hoping we can all cut a little bit of time so we can be faster,” said Howell.
