This past Saturday, the Greeley West Track Team held their annual meet at UNC. This meet went exceptionally well, with the boys placing first overall and the girls tying for first overall.
These athletes worked very hard, not only physically but mentally. Cody Gesick, a senior, trusted that all the work he puts in at practice paid off this day, “I’ve been trying to just trust my body and coach, putting in the work knowing every step would translate to meet day”
He went on to discuss the impacts his team has on him, “Even as everything gets tuned out when I’m running, I can still hear my teammates and coach yelling at me and it always pushes me a little bit more.” Gesick said.
Isabella Allen, a junior, also believes that the team and coaches have a huge impact on her motivation and keeps her in the right mindset.
“When my 4×2 team ran, it helped me feel so much more confident and this begins to set the tone for the rest of the season for me,” Allen added.
She also felt super proud of the girls as they finally proved their place against the boys, “The boys took the win, but the girls proved we are right there too, tying for first isn’t a second place, it’s a statement that proved we can be just as good, if not better than the boys,” Allen commented.
This joy was a common theme throughout the whole team, Riley Lang, a junior, has been thrilled with his personal and his teams journey, “This meet was special, getting to meet my goal of making finals was accomplished and as for the team, everyone put in their one hundred percent effort and it showed and most importantly paid off.” He stated.
