The Greeley West Girls tennis season came to an end last weekend at state with West being one of the 15 teams able to score points.
Coach Ryan Pace shared how he was impressed the team was able to replace 9 varsity letter winners saying “our team has been really strong, everyone had to play different positions this team had to take huge leaps”.
A key to this success was motivation. Pace also shared his thoughts about that too saying “I think the hunger of this team is the hunger to go and compete because making state in 5A is a huge accomplishment”.
The Greeley West girls tennis team ended the season with a 48-63 record which doesn’t sound great but Pace shared a comment talking about how this team is different from the past teams saying “The past 4 years we’ve been a really competitive team and really good win loss records”.
“This year’s focus was on growth. This team moved very well and shifted into their new positions where we were able to compete towards the back end of the season winning our last 3 matches and placing 3rd at state.”
Upperclassmen leadership is always a big part to a teams chemistry. Pace shared his thoughts about the upperclassmen taking leadership roles saying” Both the seniors and juniors stepped into that role as being leaders and helping their teammate being great human beings”.
Looking into next year Pace shared the parts of this teams success that he wants to take into next season saying “I want to take the successes from the end of this season with our new players gaining experience at regionals and now they know next year what they’re going into and do even better so the goal is to build off of that.”
With the girls tennis season over they’ll be looking toward next season with Pace saying “the team has been ranked top 15 in the state the past 4 years maybe not this year but normally we are really competitive and this team really does have something special”.
Great things coming out of the Greeley West girls tennis team and exciting things to look forward to heading into next season.
