On any given basketball game night, the chemistry between the Montelongo brothers, Zaiden and Zavier, is undeniable. Playing side by side for Greeley West, the duo has become a dynamic force, thrilling fans and frustrating opponents.
Junior Zaiden and the team’s captain, plays point guard, orchestrating plays with precision. Meanwhile, his younger brother, Zavier, a sophomore shooting guard, dominates the paint with his size and skill. Together, they’ve helped propel the Spartans forward.
Their bond on the court is evident. Whether it’s a perfectly timed assist or a hustle play that sparks the team, the brothers share an unspoken chemistry. Despite the losses piling up, they encourage their teammates to keep competing.
One of the reasons this dynamic duo has found success on the court this season is their knowledge of one another’s pressence. “I think we have better chemistry because we’ve grown up together,” said Zaiden.
Like all siblings, there are some times that they get on each other’s nerves and get into arguments. “I think we got into an argument once because I didn’t catch a ball that was passed and he (Zaiden) yelled aggressively and told me to catch it next time,” said Zavier.
The two try not to get too heated in front of the crowd, but they are building on early successes. As the season heats up, the Spartans continue their motivation, powered by sibling synergy and a shared dream of bringing home a championship. The scoreboard may not always reflect their effort, but the Montelongo brothers continue to fight for their team, even as the team struggles through a challenging season.
