The energy is high for the Greeley West football team as they match up against Gateway High School tonight. Players are determined and have something to prove on this Homecoming.
Senior Tagen Becher made it clear the team isn’t taking Gateway lightly. “Our mindset going into the game is making sure we’re as perfect as possible. We’ve been preparing like we’re playing the number one team in the state,” he said. “The cleaner we play, the more the scoreboard is going to reflect that.”
Becher says the defense is where the game will be won. “If we shut them down early, they’re gonna lose confidence and that’s when we take advantage.”
Greeley West has not won a Homecoming football game in seven seasons. The team is hoping that changes this year with the event taking place during the preseason schedule before league play starts. The defense hopes to provide many opportunities for the offense to have the ball and score.
Daymeon Duran, also known as Day Day, is coming back strong after injury. “My mindset is just doing my part on the field. If I do that, good things will happen.”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
